Carlson Dance Company works
closely with venue programmers, education institutions and
community dance organisations in devising community education
work in support of performances. The Company has a wealth
of experience in setting up innovative education projects
and initiated and runs Dance Blast, the acclaimed community
performance initiative for young people in South East Wales.
Set up in 1998 this hugely successful scheme has over 5000
participants a year.
Whilst on tour Carlson Dance Company offers high quality
community education work. Workshops can take place at local
schools or colleges during lesson times or as an ‘out
of school/college’ activity at the performance venue.
The Company specialises in creating dance work with workshop
participants which can then be performed alongside the Company’s
own production. All Company education work provides a safe
and inspiring environment in which people from diverse backgrounds
can access their own creativity and express themselves in
a positive way.
The workshops are conducted by either Company choreographer
Emma Carlson or cast members. All are highly experienced
in delivering education work. The content of the workshop
sessions is a mix of taught excerpts from the Company’s
current production and participants own work developed during
the sessions using specific themes and choreographic techniques.
The emphasis is on enabling participants to use dance as
an exciting and relevant form of communication and expression.
The Company can deliver workshops to a wide range of abilities
from the newcomer to dance to the dance professional. Age
range is from eight to adults.

voice is hurting me from laughing so much!"

The Company can offer:
» A
series of 1 – 2 hour workshop sessions at local schools
and/or colleges on or before the performance day. The Company
has three workshop teams available, each with two personnel,
so sessions can be arranged to run concurrently.
OR:
» The
Company choreographer can create a dance work with live music
that is then performed alongside the Company’s performance.
Two (3 hour) workshop sessions are needed to create a 10
minute piece. The Company provides costumes and any props/scenery
used.
Please note that
all workshop personnel abide by the Company’s child
protection policy and have valid police checks.
